World Capacitor Shipments for 2016 on Track to Reach Three Trillion Units Worth $16 Billion

Global capacitor shipments continued their quarter on quarter growth in Q3 compared to Q2 2016 and the same quarter in 2015. The yearly run rate through the first three quarters of the year has shipments up 9.7%, at three trillion units; in dollars, $16 billion, up 4.1%. "Industry executives attending Electronica 2016 were very much upbeat and see evidence of improved business conditions as we move into 2017," noted Jim Bruorton, ECIA vice president, industry statistics and business analytics. "Much of their optimism centers around connectivity trends in the industrial markets. This is encouraging news after the last several years of sluggish to negative growth," he concluded.

ECIA Presents Inaugural North Star Award to Michael Knight

At its Executive Conference in Chicago this week, the ECIA announced the winner of the inaugural ECIA North Star Award, the association’s highest leadership honor. For millennia, the North Star provided the navigational basis to those who sought to explore the world and to make it better. The award, so named to reflect the concept of extraordinary leadership, guidance, and perseverance within our industry, is the successor to NEDA’s Gail Carter award. ECIA felt the need to continue the tradition of recognizing individuals who made significant contributions to the industry over the course of their careers and set the standard for those who follow. ECIA Announces New Vice President Role for Debbie Conyers

ECIA is pleased to announce the promotion of Debbie Conyers to the new role of Vice President of Member Engagement. In this new role, Debbie will become the primary point of contact for new membership inquiries as well as those from our current members. In addition, she will be heading initiatives to improve ECIA's new member on-boarding process and tools. ECIA’s Electronic Component Trends Survey Results for Q3 CY 2016 Now Available

ECIA has just released the results of its Q3 CY 2016 components trends survey which can now be viewed in the Knowledge Center on the ECIA website. Of those responding to the survey, approximately 40% see Q3’16 flat to Q2’16 while 38% see growth in the 1% to 3% range. Of those surveyed growth quarter on quarter will come from automotive, medical and avionics/military/aerospace. Those surveyed see the market basically flat for the industrial and consumer markets and negative growth for the computer and telecom market.
